Interstellar Dream is a concept album inspired by a dream of an Interstellar voyage many light years away.

Take the journey!

I had an incredible dream a few years ago.

I had been chosen to join an expedition from Earth to a mysterious planet many lightyears away. It was a very realistic dream. I remember being torn about whether to go, because if I chose to go, I could never return home. By the time we arrived on this distant world, Earth would be hundreds of years into the future and all who I knew and all that I knew would be no more. I decided to go. When we arrived at this strange world, I realized that this was it, this was my new home. It was a despairing, lonely feeling. I walked around this alien city resigning to my new home. I entered a building and in one of the rooms were all my musical instruments. I remember saying, well at least I have my music. When I woke up, it took me a few seconds to realize it was a dream, but the takeaway was: make more time for your music and keep creating, no matter what.

My new album, Interstellar Dream, was inspired by this dream. I teamed up with producer/engineer/guitarist Chris Lee (The Shakers) and what ensued was three years of writing and musical exploration that culminated in this new album. I initially set out to play all the instruments (bass, guitar, drums, keys) but realized the material was worthy of a higher caliber of drummer and keyboardist so I brought in my nephew, Nick Woods (The Shakers, He Monster) to replace my drum tracks and Justus Dobrin to contribute the lion’s share of the keyboard and synthesizer soundscapes. The biggest surprise discovery was Samantha Sylvers, who plays the role of “Star Queen.” Sam’s vocal talents were discovered by her partner, Interstellar Dream producer, Chris Lee. Chris Lee also contributed various guitar tracks and backing vocals not to mention his incredible mixing and engineering talents bringing this project to life.

This collection of songs is meant to be listened to straight through to get the full story and effect. I hope you enjoy the journey!

About Scott

Guitarist, multi-instrumentalist Scott Woods’ musical explorations have been varied over the years with multiple incarnations and stylistic directions. Going back to his days in New Orleans in the early 90’s playing in his Funk and Southern Rock inspired band, Fat Jack to his early 2000’s San Francisco Soul Jazz/Funk band, UFM, Scott has always been inspired by the groove.

The Layover Sessions - Session #1 is Scott’s latest release. Mostly recorded and produced during the deep days of the pandemic, this retro-vibed exploration taps into the old-school, funkier side of Scott’s musical inspiration with some new directions as well. Produced by producer/engineer/keyboardist Justus Dobrin (Narada Michael Waldon).

Scott’s January 2022 release, Interstellar Dream, goes down the progressive rock pathway and was the culmination of three years recording and creating with producer/engineer/guitarist Chris Lee (The Shakers, DSMD Studios).
